The Johnston Fire Department is a combination department. Currently staffing a fulltime Chief, and 6 fulltime firefighter/ EMT's. Fulltime crews work 12 hour shifts, begining at 6am each day and ending at 6pm, 7 days a week. Paid on Call members take over responding to calls in the evenings. At 10pm on week nights, a sleep in program was established, putting 3 part time firefighters, EMT's, and Paramedics in house throughout the night. On weekends, hours for the sleep in program change a bit, with the shifts starting at 6pm and ending the following morning at 6am. Currently the Johnston Fire Department is taking applications for our Paid on Call positions. With the projected city growth, and future plans of growing the Johnston Fire Department, fulltime positions may be coming open in the near future. Stay tuned.
